Getting started with SEO

There’s no one trick to improve SEO, it’s a number of things that need to be done and need to be constantly updated. It can be time consuming and annoying.

There are however a few tricks that you must do in order for Google or Bing to take notice.

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the key to your business being found on the web and in some cases key to your business's success.

In this document we give you some easy tips to improve your SEO for free and you should be able to do them yourself.

GOOGLE CRAWL

This might seem obvious but before you do anything make sure your site is registered with Google. You can ask Google to crawl your website. Submit your sitemap and it will let google crawl the content of your website. You can do this via Google Search Console.

1. Google Analytics

If you haven’t already, register your website with Google Analytics. This will give you great insights into where your traffic is coming from, this will also give you a good guide to know where you need improvement and where you should put your time into.

2. Sitemap

Register your sitemap with google, bing or any other browser you might think of. This will get Google and Bing to crawl your website and find all the precious words you’ve chosen.

3. Google My Business

Register your business with Google My Business. You can then tell Google where your business is, upload photos and supply all relevant information about your business to Google. There’s an App you can download for this.

4. Google Search Console

To submit your URL to Google, you first have to log on to Google’s start page and create an account; signing up for one is completely free of charge. Click the ‘sign in’ button and then select ‘create account’. Google will then take you through the registration process. Skip this step if you’re already registered with Google.

BACKLINKS

Backlinks are a great way to get traffic to your website. Backlinks are especially valuable for SEO, this is when content from your website features on another website. This is one of the best but also one of the hardest, if you can get YOUR CONTENT on another high ranking website then do it. Also, even your company name featuring on external websites can help improve your SEO.

1. What websites?

There are loads of websites that you can have links to your website on, the most obvious are Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, to name a few. This would also mean creating an account with these websites, which in turn, helps with your SEO.

2. Research competitor backlinks

Compare the makeup of your competitors’ link profiles and see where they’re earning their links and how. See what your competitors’ are creating and create similar content but better. Nothing happens overnight but by creating content that is better will work.

3. High Profiles Sites

Backlinks from trustworthy, popular, high-authority sites are obviously better backlinks to earn, while backlinks from low-authority, potentially spammy sites are typically at the other end of the spectrum.

4. Content

In order to get backlinks from other websites, you need to have content worth talking about. Creating blogs or videos are a great way to get others to repost or mention you on their website. But make sure it’s good, we can’t stress this enough.

QUALITY CONTENT

Creating content consistently is great for SEO. This can also lead to backlinks, if you create killer content there is more chance of being featured on an external website. A simple blog can be a great way to get traffic to your website but make sure your content is relevant and remarkable.

1. Content is king

We all know the saying but it only works if the content is REMARKABLE. Nobody will read, post, watch or listen to you if the content your putting on your website is average. Make sure what you produce is worth its weight in gold.

2. Eyeballs

There are loads of places you can post your content to and they’re all free. Send your content to relevant websites where you think the reader may be interested, you never know, if you don’t ask, you don’t receive.

3. Images and Video

Research shows that articles containing relevant images enjoy 94 per cent more views than articles without images. Again, make sure your imagery is good, not just overused stock images. Video is always a good way to get attention.

4. Target Market

Just like with any media you create content for, your market is incredibly important to your SEO. Using the right keywords is just as important as the content you create.
